Backup and Safety Copies
Mr. Toad's can make a safety copy of your recording to the same format you've recorded on. We understand that this copy has to be the highest quality transfer possible, as you're probably sending the master reels off to the label for archive but always want to be able to play your tracks back on your machine again and without having undergone any digital conversion. It is NO more expensive to make a high quality safety copy of your analog master than it is to make a digital multitrack copy of your master - and the analog copy is probably a better long term archival format than any digital copy could reliably be!
Besides, why trade in the "infinite" resolution of high quality analog recordings for the very mathematically finite and practically obsolete formats such as PCM-based digital audio (currently used in most digital
recording solutions - ADAT, ProTools, Nuendo, Logic, etc). With new digital formats such as the high-resolution DSD here already, it is a very legitimate decision to choose an analog backup over anything arbitrarily cut
up into digital chunks.
We use only the best equipment available to make your copy. 2" 24-track recordings are transferred directly from one Otari MTR-100a
tape decks to another (which easily align to both NAB and CCIR equalizations and any brand of tape). 1/2" and 1/4" tapes from 3
3/4ips to 30ips play from one ATR-102 directly to another ATR-102. 0f course there are so many formats we don't have them all but we can
generally figure out how to make the transfer you need happen, with our many resources.
