Video CD Hybrid

We came up with the idea for the VCD-Hybrid disc back in 1998. Really! We even went so far as to file initial patent applications on it, then realized that we had no product. It just wasn't marketable at that point. the main reason is that DVD was already on the horizon and many people thought the demise of CD was just around the corner. Also, Video CD had never become a useful format for distributing media in the US.

But we love it anyway. The main reason we came up with the format was because we wanted to see a Video CD play not only in a DVD player but in Macs and PCs as well. Generally, you need special VCD player software installed on your computer to watch one. With our VCD-Hybrid though, the disc plays in DVD players, Macs and PCs - and all without any special software that needs to be installed on the player.
