We believe that DVD will begin to stretch out from its rigid possession by the Hollywood studio system and begin to break new, independently produced media into the mainstream - avoiding the old paradigm of ever having to go to film or broadcast to be successful.
"La Boheme" - Western Opera Theatre (90 Minutes)
W.O.T is the SF Opera's junior troupe, which travels to the cities and states that don't have opera companies. In Summer 2002, W.O.T was performing "La Boheme" in a very new and updated way - set the beatnik 60's of Paris. The colors seemed very bold and Moulin Rouge-esque and we played our production of it up that way. Little did we know Baz Luhrmann himself was concocting a very similar approach to the same opera that debuted later that year.
"Scouting Report" - Applesaucer
This introduction to the boys of Applesaucer turns out to have well over 100 gags in it's 10 minute running time. The entire production was conceived and executed in-house back in 1999. Now if only there had been some viable outlet that wanted to play this brief absurdity.
